Fremont County History: 

Fremont County was formed in 1847 and named for the military officer John C. Fremont.According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 517 square miles (1,340 km2), of which 511 square miles (1,320 km2) is land and 5.5 square miles (14 km2) (1.1%) is water.  Wikipedia page.
