Benton County History: 

Benton county is a county in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2010 census, the population was 26,076. Its county seat is Vinton. The county is named for Thomas Hart Benton, a U.S. Senator from Missouri. Benton County is part of the Cedar Rapids, IA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Benton County was formed on December 21, 1837 from sections of Dubuque County. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 718 square miles, of which 716 square miles  is land. Wikipedia page.
