Weekly Land Auction Results in Iowa

This week there were 25 land auctions across the state. Of the 25 auctions, 21 of them met their expectations when bringing a farm to auction. There was a total of 3,159 acres sold, 2,393 being tillable acres with the average price per CSR2 point being $113.13. We are noticing land values all over the board for the most part. Farms across the state traded as high as $174 per CSR2 point in Sioux County and as low as $83 per CSR2 point in Woodbury County.  This instability in the market makes talking to a land expert even more crucial than normal. It’s important to consult with a person that really knows the market here in Iowa. Some areas are more soft than others while some are still selling very strong. Not in every case in today’s market do you want to bring a farm to auction (call an agent today to discuss)! Many factors go into this decision and we want sellers to understand each scenario. At the end of the day we want you to get the most out of your asset. Great dirt is still stable, trading over $100 per CSR2 point. Let me repeat, GOOD dirt is still trading VERY WELL! Moderate dirt is starting to become unstable and trending downward because of the lack of demand and the uncertainty in low commodity prices, interest rate increases, and lending institutions tightening their reigns on operators.
